AFTERCARE
If you’ve received second skin, leave it on for roughly 3-4 days.
Ink, blood, and plasma will seep out to form a goo underneath the bandage, this is totally normal!
You can shower with second skin on but no swimming or sauna!
As the skin is healing, be sure not to overly stretch, rub, or scratch the area too much as this can affect how the tattoo heals and settles.
This means no gym at least 2-3 days after the tattoo. In especially hi-flex areas like wrists and elbows, strenuous movement right after a tattoo can cause the ink to move and artwork to blur.
If you are showering and notice water has gotten into the bandage, remove it the bandage, as trapped water can cause an infection.
If your tattoo is on your calf or ankle be especially aware of this. Trapped water isn’t the same as the blood plasma though so if you don’t notice obvious leaks then you should be fine, message me if you are unsure though!
Some people have an allergy to the adhesive in second skin.
If you notice the area around the tattoo getting red or itchy you can take the bandage off and ‘dry heal’ it the old fashioned way.
To remove, slowly ‘roll’ a corner edge and use that section to carefully peel it off and give the tattoo a gentle wash in the shower or under running warm water.
Clean the tattoo twice daily with unscented soap, pat dry with a paper towel, and apply your choice of tattoo aftercare, I recommend Ink Nurse (available at Chemist Warehouse).
I’ve taken all measures to ensure a sterile environment when doing the tattoo, using several barriers to avoid cross contamination and single-use needles.
In the very rare case of an infection during healing, contact your GP immediately, I recommend via Telehealth or getting an Online Script so you aren’t waiting around for an appointment.
They will be able to prescribe a topical or oral antibiotic which clears it up quickly.
Everyone heals differently, once the tattoo has healed, if you notice any areas that have dropped out please contact me and we can determine if a touch up is needed free of charge.
Contact me sooner than later so there isn’t a discrepancy between the ink as it settles.
Let me know any questions, there are no silly questions.
It’s in both our interests for the tattoo to turn out great and for you to be happy with it!
Be sure to send me healed photos of your tattoos!
